Quick answer
First confirm the tap is open and household water pressure is adequate, then check the inlet hose and the mesh filter at its connection. If all is fine and you hear a hum from the back with no water, the inlet valve most likely needs testing or replacement.
Overview
Many homes in Jordan rely on roof tanks, so pressure sometimes drops or stops — the first thing to rule out before suspecting the washer.
Samsung washers use an electric valve that opens when water is needed and a sensor that measures the level. If the level doesn’t rise in the expected time, the washer stops with 4E or 4C.
Likely causes
-
1
Tap closed or low water pressure
An empty tank, a half-open tap, or low pressure on upper floors lets water in too slowly to fill in time.
-
2
Blocked inlet mesh filter
A small mesh at the hose connection stops sand and scale; it clogs over time, especially with hard water.

3
Kinked inlet hose
Pushing the washer back or moving it can bend the hose, reducing or cutting the flow.
-
4
Failed water inlet valve
The valve coil can fail or the valve can block mechanically; sometimes you hear a hum with no water.

5
Door not locked
Most front-loaders won’t let water in until the door locks, so a lock fault can look like a filling fault.

6
Level sensor or control board
If the sensor wrongly thinks the drum is full, the board never asks for water.

Safe checks before calling a technician
Unplug the washer and close the water tap before any check. Do not open the back or top panels, and do not touch wiring or circuit boards — that work is for a qualified technician.
- Open a nearby tap and check the water flow is strong.
- Make sure the washer’s tap is fully open.
- Unplug the washer, close the tap, then unscrew the inlet hose from the back (keep a towel handy).
- Gently clean the mesh filter at the inlet with a soft brush under running water without damaging it, then refit firmly.
- Check the hose isn’t kinked after pushing the washer back, then run a short programme.
Parts involved
Inlet mesh filter
A small mesh at the inlet-hose connection that stops sand and scale from entering the valve.
Water inlet valve
An electric valve that opens and closes to let water in; it may feed several detergent compartments.
Water-level (pressure) sensor
Measures air pressure in a tube connected to the tub to know how much water is inside.
Door lock
An electrical unit that locks the door during a cycle and confirms to the control board that it is safely closed.
Main control board (PCB)
The washer’s brain: reads sensors and drives the motor, pump, valves and heater.
When should you call a technician?
- Pressure is good, the filter is clean, and the problem persists.
- You hear a hum from the back but no water enters.
- Water reaches the detergent drawer but not the drum, or enters through the wrong compartment.
- 1E or other codes appear alongside 4E.

Frequently asked questions
Can low water pressure cause 4E?
Yes — very common in tank-fed homes. If pressure is weak at certain times, run the washer when it is better.
Can I clean the inlet filter myself?
Yes, with the tap closed and power off, handling the mesh gently. Don’t remove the filter permanently — it protects the valve.
Why does my washer fill so slowly?
Usually a partly blocked inlet filter or low pressure, sometimes a valve that only partly opens.
