Quick answer
A Samsung dishwasher that won’t heat usually has a heating-element, temperature-sensor or board heating-circuit fault — sometimes a clogged filter weakens circulation around the heater and triggers HE. Clean the filter first; if it persists or the breaker trips, call a technician.
Overview
Samsung dishwashers usually heat water internally and monitor it with a sensor. If the temperature isn’t reached in time they show a code, or extend the programme trying to reach it.
Eco and quick programmes deliberately use lower temperatures, so judge the problem on a normal or intensive programme.
Likely causes
-
1
Failed heating element
An open circuit or current leak in the heater prevents heating; a leak can also trip the breaker.

2
Temperature sensor fault
A wrong reading stops heating early or shows tE.

3
Board heating circuit
A failed relay or circuit feeding the heater.

4
Clogged filter, poor circulation
Some designs need adequate water flow over the heater; a clogged filter reduces flow and triggers heating codes.

5
Low-temperature programme
Eco, quick and glass programmes run cooler.
Safe checks before calling a technician
Unplug the dishwasher before any check, and close its tap if there is a leak. Wear gloves when checking the sump in case of broken glass, and don’t open the side or bottom panels.
- Run a normal or intensive programme instead of eco.
- Clean the bottom filter.
- Near the end, carefully open the door — warm steam should escape and dishes should be warm.
- Notice whether the breaker trips during the cycle; if so, stop using it.
Parts involved
Heating element
Heats wash and final-rinse water, and helps drying on many models.
Temperature sensor
Measures water temperature so the board can control heating.
Main control board
Runs the programmes and drives pumps, valve and heater based on sensor readings.
Dishwasher filter
A filter assembly in the tub floor that catches food debris before it reaches the pumps; needs regular cleaning.
When should you call a technician?
- Dishes are cold on every programme.
- HE or tE appears after cleaning the filter.
- The breaker trips while heating.

Frequently asked questions
Should I connect the dishwasher to hot water?
Follow your model’s installation guide; most dishwashers connect to cold water and heat it internally.
Why is the eco programme so long?
It compensates for lower temperature with more time — normal, and it saves energy.
Can not heating cause odours?
Yes, over time — lukewarm water doesn’t dissolve grease well, so it builds up in the filter and pipes.
