Samsung dryer water tank and condenser alerts

Condenser and heat-pump dryers don’t vent moist air outdoors — they turn moisture into water that collects in a tank. The system needs simple but regular care.

Quick answer

Empty the water tank before every cycle and clean the condenser and its filter per your manual. If the tank alert shows with an empty tank, or water leaks under the dryer, the condensate pump, tank sensor or internal drain hose may need checking.

Overview

A small pump collects condensed water and lifts it to the tank (usually at the top beside the control panel). When it’s full, the dryer stops and shows a reminder to empty it.

Some models can be connected to a drain hose instead of the tank, per the installation guide.

Likely causes

  1. 1

    Tank full or not seated

The alert is normal when full, and also appears if the tank isn’t pushed fully home.

Related parts: Water tank & condensate pump

  2. 2

    Dirty condenser

Lint build-up weakens condensing, lengthening drying and possibly causing leaks.

Related parts: Condenser / heat exchanger

  3. 3

    Condensate pump not working

If the pump doesn’t lift water to the tank, it collects in the base and may leak, or the alert shows constantly.

  4. 4

    Blocked or loose internal hose

Lint can block the water path to the tank.

  5. 5

    Dryer not level

A tilt can stop water reaching the pump properly.

Safe checks before calling a technician

Before any check

Unplug the dryer and let it cool before any check. Don’t run it if you notice a burning smell or smoke, and don’t open the back or side panels — they hide heating elements and high-voltage wiring.

  1. Empty the tank and push it fully home.
  2. Clean the condenser or its filter per your manual, and make sure it’s dry before refitting.
  3. Clean the lint filter after every cycle to limit lint reaching the condenser.
  4. Make sure the dryer is level.
  5. If connected to a drain hose, check it isn’t kinked.

Parts involved

Water tank & condensate pump

Collects condensed water via a small pump; a full tank stops the dryer.

Condenser / heat exchanger

In condenser and heat-pump dryers it turns moisture into water; lint build-up weakens drying.

Lint filter

Catches lint from clothes; a clogged filter is one of the top causes of poor drying and overheating.

Heat-pump system

A compressor and heat exchangers that heat air and condense moisture efficiently in heat-pump dryers.

When should you call a technician?

  • The alert shows with an empty tank.
  • The tank never fills even though clothes dry (or don’t).
  • Water leaks under the dryer.
  • You hear the pump running constantly.

Frequently asked questions

Can I do without the tank?

On many models you can connect a direct drain hose instead. Check the installation guide or ask us about your model.

Can I use the tank water?

Not for drinking or cooking — it can contain detergent residue and lint.

How often should I clean the condenser?

Per your manual — some models self-clean, others need manual cleaning every few cycles.
